Pest information:

BED BUGS

Pests included in treatment: Bed Bugs
Areas treated outside: Not required.
Areas treated inside: Areas found to be infested during initial inspection. Normally cracks & crevices around beds & furnishing, mattresses & room edges.
Warranty: NIL

BEES

Pests included in treatment: Bees
Areas treated outside: If hive is in clump (externally) you must contact an Apiaist.
Areas treated inside: Wall cavity where hive has established.
Preparation: NIL
Warranty: 6 months for re-infestation of treated area only.
Time: Normally 25 – 30 minutes.

Bees often cause concern by nesting in a wall cavity. This will become evident as the bees will be constantly entering and leaving from the one point. Southpest can apply a dust to the affected area to eliminate the hive.

BIRD LICE

Pests included in treatment: Bird Lice. Can only be treated after removal of nest and blocking of entry point.
Areas treated externally: Not required.
Areas treated internally: Affected rooms.
Warranty: 6 months.
Time: As long as all entry points are sealed.

CARPET BEETLE

Pests included in treatment: Carpet Beetle.
Areas treated externally: Not required.
Areas treated internally: Cavities, roof void, room edges etc.
Warranty: 6 months. Can only apply if client has all carpet edges lifted prior to treatment and relayed after.
Time: 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

COCKROACHES

Pests included in treatment: Large Cockroaches & German Cockroaches are included in our general pest treatment (along with Ground Dwelling Spiders, Redback Spiders & Webbing Spiders).
Areas treated outside: External building perimeter, subfloor, garage, around window & door frames, under-eave areas first floor, pergolas, fencing & grounds, path & garden edges & wall cavities.
Areas treated inside: Roof void, cupboards (using gel) and skirtings internally. Dust treatment at electrical motors.
Preparation: Please go to Service Preparation menu option.
Warrany to internal areas: 6 months (excludes webbing spiders)
Time: We will require approximately 1-2 hours depending on the size of your property.

Cockroaches frequent areas such as behind the refrigerator and hot water services, in roof voids, around drains and plumbing, and in cracks and crevices in the kitchen, bathroom and laundry. Southpest will use insecticidal dusts, residual pyrethroid sprays & gel baits. Good hygiene is essential in the control of cockroaches. Keep surfaces clean of food, especially at night; store food away properly, remove potential hiding places such as stacked newspaper and cardboard and vacuum regularly.

COMMON ANTS

Pests included in treatment: Black Ants & Coastal Brown Ants
Areas treated outside: We do an external treatment around the base of the house, path & gardens edges, fence lines and dust treatment into the weepholes (cavities).
Areas treated inside: We dust treat the roof void and use gel and baits internally. Treatment of room edges using liquid.
Preparation: Please go to Service Preparation menu option.
Warranty: No warranty applies to common ant treatment, but we will retreat at a reduced cost. Ants can never be totally eradicated from a site, although with professional treatment and the introduction of baits and other liquid compounds, we can reduce & manage ant activity.
Time: We will require approximately 1-2 hours depending on the size of your property.

Ants are mainly a nuisance pest. Ants often move nest sites when disturbed, or with a change in food supply. This can make control and removal of ants difficult. They may leave for short periods only to return later when a new food source is located and they can recolonise from nearby nests very quickly

FLEAS

Pests included in treatment: Fleas only
Areas treated outside: We treat externally where the animals frequent, including grass & garden areas by blanket application.
Areas treated inside: We will treat carpet areas with a light spray that includes a growth regulator, that takes care of any further fleas that hatch from remaining eggs.
Preparation: Please go to Service Preparation menu option.
Warranty: 3 months if no pets reside at the property. If pets are present or introduced to the property no warranty applies. Please be aware that existing eggs will still hatch and as such, activity will still be noted for 21-30 days.
Time: We will require approximately 1-2 hours depending on the size of your property.

Fleas are annoying and irritating in the home where, particularly when climatic conditions are favourable, they can create huge populations. More importantly, some fleas are carriers of serious diseases, such as bubonic plague, murine typhus and a number of tapeworm infections.

Southpest uses an adulticide to elminate the adult flea and a growth regulator to stop the life cycle of the flea.

Please be aware that due to that life cycle, and the fact that eggs can still hatch, flea activity can take at least 30 days to cease in some cases.

POSSUMS

There are 2 types of possums in the suburbs, the Brushtail and the Ringtail possum. In areas with limited trees, possums use roofs, ceilings and eaves as they offer a warm, dry and safe option to sleep during the day.

Possums can climb trees or move along power lines to enter the premises and access the roof, they can jump at least 5 metres from a tree to a roof. They are also capable of lifting any loose tin or roof tiles when searching for accommodation.

For this reason it is imperative that all overhanging trees be cut back before the possum removal is done.

When SOUTHPEST attends a site to assess a noise in the roof our technician will:

1. Identify it is indeed a possum and not rodent activity. Rodents can also be noisy at night as they scurry across the ceiling. Possums normally leave the roof after dusk and arrive back around dawn. Our technician will be able to identify it is possum or rodent by the droppings.

2. If the roof is easily accessible, we will identify the access point, set a trap in the roof and then return to remove the possum from the ceiling. This may take some days, especially with Ringtail possums as they can be wary of the traps for a period of time.

3. If possible, block the access point. Remove the trapped possum and release it less than 50 metres from its territory. Possums are very territorial. If a possum is taken out of its territory it may not survive.

NOTE: When we are working with a multi level dwelling such as a unit block, the roof may not be easily accessible and further costs would be
incurred for height access equipment.

NOTE: We prefer not to put possum traps in roofs on Saturdays as this will increase your cost and we run the risk the possum will be trapped all weekend.

RODENTS

Pests included in treatment: Rodents
Areas treated outside: We will use lockable rodent boxes for external traffic areas, if and as required.
Areas treated inside: We will bait internal areas where treatment will not be accessed by children or animals, normally rood cavity.

Warranty: NIL. Baits will be laid initially and we will perform 1 follow-up visit to check the baits and activity.

Time: Initial visit should only take 20-25 minutes.

Rodents are serious pests of humans and they can, in some cases, be difficult to control.

SILVERFISH

Pests included in treatment: Silverfish
Areas treated outside: External building perimeter & Subfloor. Dusting of wall cavities.
Areas treated inside: Roof void, cupboards (using gel) and skirtings internally.
Preparation: Please go to Service Preparation menu option.
Warranty: 3 months
Time: We will require approximately 1 hour depending on the size of your property.

Silverfish usually live and develop close to their food source in damp, cool places, though they have the ability to live without food for several months. This pest is one of the most difficult to totally eliminate. The more food available, the more silverfish thrive, so professional treatment is advised.

You may wish to go through all your woollen & cotton clothes, including checking all seams for evidence, in some cases dry cleaning is recommended.

SPIDERS

Pests included in treatment: Ground Dwelling Spiders, Redback Spiders & Webbing Spiders are included in our general pest treatment (along with large cockroaches & German cockroaches).
Areas treated outside: External building perimeter, subfloor, garage, around window & door frames, under-eave areas, pergolas, fencing & grounds. Dusting treatment of wall cavities.

Areas treated inside: Roof void and skirtings internally.

Preparation: Please go to Service Preparation menu option.
Warranty: 6 months (excludes webbing spiders)
Time: We will require approximately 1-2 hours depending on the size of your property.

Spiders build webs in shrubs, trees, along rock walls, storage rooms and in corners. Many spiders live in a retreat area off the web. Burrowing spiders may be found under rocks & logs.

Southpest can greatly deter ground dwelling spiders although webbing spiders will always be around, due to overhanding trees & foliage etc.

WASPS

Pests included in treatment: Wasps
Areas treated outside: Visible nests will be eliminated. Southpest can apply a dust to the affected area to eliminate the nest.
Areas treated inside: As required.
Preparation: NIL.
Warranty: NIL.
Time: Normally 15-20 minutes.

Wasp control is essential when they have large populations near your living areas.

Why are they a pest? If you invade their space they can attack you and sting repeatedly, unlike bees which can only sting once.

The Papernest wasp’s nest, is usually small (about the diameter of a 50c coin), fully or partially exposed, honeycombed in appearance and is often found on the underside of eaves or hanging off a branch.

SAFE

All products we use are environmentally friendly. All compounds applied by Southpest are used in accordance with the product label and are low in toxicity.

FREE SERVICE PERIOD

Should your pests re-appear within our “Free Service Period”, we will return and re-treat the treated area at no cost to you.

ANNUAL REMINDERS

Pest control is an annual requirement. We will send you a reminder so you don’t forget. We believe prevention is better than cure.
